Why ClubSport Connect?

Finding a club shouldn't feel like a scavenger hunt.

Finding local club opportunities shouldn't mean checking Facebook groups, club websites, Instagram, generalist job platforms and word of mouth. We're building one place where clubs can find great people and coaches can discover opportunities.

ClubSport Connect was built because finding coaching opportunities shouldn't rely on just who you know.

About us

Every great sporting experience starts with great people.

I never planned on being a coach. Two season-ending ankle injuries in two years will sort that out for you. With playing off the table, I put my hand up to help out at my local country footy club instead. Dad had been club president for years, so the place was basically my second home growing up anyway. Giving back wasn't really a decision. It was just what you did.

Turns out coaching a bunch of 10 to 13 year olds teaches you a lot more about people than it does about football. The coaches who actually stick in a kid's memory aren't the ones with the best set play. They're the ones who left them more confident than they found them.

In 2022 I packed up and moved from WA to Victoria for a dream job, helping build Hawthorn's first AFLW program. Incredible opportunity. Also a lonely one on the coaching front. I had zero local network, so finding a team of my own to coach meant hours scrolling Facebook groups and club websites with no real idea what was out there, or who to even ask.

Eventually I landed at a club ten minutes from my front door, and two seasons in I properly understood what it means to be connected to the right one. These days I coach an Under 19 Premier side. I got that job the old fashioned way: cold emailing my CV and talking myself up, because nothing better existed.

So I built something better. Every club I've ever been part of has the same problem on loop. Good clubs can't find good people, and good people have no idea the club that needs them even exists. ClubSport Connect is the fix.

"

I know what it's like to find the right club. I also know what it's like to have absolutely no idea where to look. This exists so you don't have to figure it out the hard way like I did.

This isn't just another jobs board. It's the platform I wish existed when I started coaching.

Why it matters

Sport only works if the people behind it keep showing up

Grassroots sport pumps an estimated $50 billion a year into the Australian economy. 14 million of us take part every year, and 1.8 million volunteers put in roughly 158 million hours between them. All of that only works if people can actually find their way to a club. Right now, plenty of them can't.

$0Bin estimated annual social capital value generated by community sport participation
0Mvolunteers powering community sport each year
0M hrsgiven by those volunteers every year

The problem we're solving

Why clubs lose good people, and what we're doing about it

Research into grassroots sport keeps surfacing the same handful of reasons clubs struggle to find and keep coaches and volunteers. Our job board and forum were built directly around them.

The barrierPeople don't know how to volunteer, have never been asked, or don't know what opportunities exist or match their skills.
โ†’
How we helpA searchable job board by sport, category and location, so opportunities are actually visible instead of word of mouth.
The barrierRoles are poorly advertised or communicated, positioned as onerous, or don't show how someone like them can contribute.
โ†’
How we helpClear, structured listings covering role, level, location and club, instead of a vague ask buried in a Facebook group.
The barrierA perceived exclusive "inner circle" of existing volunteers, and clubs that aren't overtly welcoming to newcomers.
โ†’
How we helpAn open forum where anyone can ask questions, share experience and get a feel for a club before ever showing up.
The barrierTime, work and family commitments, and a fear that volunteering will demand more than someone can give.
โ†’
How we helpRoles that state exactly what's involved up front, so people can find something that fits their life, not the other way around.
The barrierBurnout. The same small group of volunteers doing everything, feeling like the club is disorganised, or that it's someone else's turn to step up.
โ†’
How we helpA steady pipeline of new people finding the club, easing pressure on the volunteers already stretched thin.
